Check the tires constantly and make sure that all the tires are inflated and pressured correctly. Although most people know that maintaining the health of the tires will help the lifespan of the tires they do not realize how a well maintain tire can help save on fuel cost too. Underinflated tires affect the cars steering and braking abilities. The resistance by the badly maintain tires will make the car work harder therefore it uses up more fuel.
Remove the roof rack or roof cargo if you have one will also help in terms of saving costs. The extra racks will only create more resistance and will not help with the aerodynamics of the car. The drag caused by those accessory also plays a part in fuel economy.
Try taking out some unnecessary weight from the vehicle like the full size spare tires. Replace those with the limited use tires instead. Shut the windows to reduce drag.
Lastly, improve on your driving style. Accelerating and braking hard will take a toll on the petrol bill. So drive smoothly and accelerate slowly. Look far ahead to prepare for bumps and obstacles early so that you don’t have to step on the brake hard when it approaches. Travel with a stable speed too.
